Rose of Jericho
The Rose of Jericho is also known as the Resurrection plant or dinosaur plant. A member of the lycopod family, this plant has remained in it's current form for over 400 million years. The Rose of Jericho is a desert plant, native to the Americas. It can survive for long periods of time without water by curling itself up into a ball and going into a dormant state. Once the rains come, the plant "blooms" allowing for photosynthesis to occur, before curling back up into a ball again once the rains have disappeared.
It is this ability to "come back to life" that has imbued this plant with so much meaning and mystique. To Christians, it's a symbol of Christ's resurrection, to practitioners of Hoodoo it is believed to bring luck and abundance. The leaves from the Rose of Jericho can be used in oils and sprays and the water the plants have been sitting in can be sprinkled around the house or on ritual tools to bless and attract good energy. It can also be used in love workings where a relationship has become stale and you are seeking to bring love back to life.
To experience the magick of the Rose of Jericho, simply place them in a bowl of water, submerging the roots of the plant only. You can use warm water to speed up the opening the process. The plant will start to show signs of coming back to life within minutes and will be fully open within 12-24 hours. To keep your Rose of Jericho healthy, allow the plant to dry out for at least 2 weeks between watering. As they are a desert plant, too much water can cause mildew or rot to set in.
A true natural curiosity and a wonderful addition to your magickal work.
As this is a natural product, size and shape variation occurs between plants. Sizing is given in centimetres and is an approximate measure of the diameter of the plant when in it is in a curled up, dried ball state.
