Bacchus, Thracian God of Wine
Dionysus represents youth, expression, fertility and abundance. Dionysus holds the Thysus, a pine-cone tipped staff, which is a symbol often associated with Gods from Greek mythology. With his long flowing hair held by a vine crown, gentle expression and relaxed pose, young Dionysus symbolises non aggression and fertility. He is also known as disperser of grief and sorrow. Naked and unashamed, he wears a "bassaris" or fox-skin cape, which symbolises new life.
Made from cold cast resin this statue depicts a young naked Dionysus in ivory with gold highlights on his hair, grapes and staff. The statue measures approximately 17.5cm high and 5.5cm wide at the base.
